08 A North African Journey (Exodus team
2003)
After a 7-hour overnight boat journey, the Exodus Discipleship Team finally arrived on the North coast of Africa. With no rest for the wicked, we began our work later that Monday morning, making the Distribution packs that we would hand out over the coming days.
Each pack consisted of a Jesus video and audio cassette, as well as a Bible and several other books. We made up packs of these materials in various languages including Arabic, Rifi-Berber (an indigenous tribal language), Spanish and French. Our distribution time normally lasted about 2 hours, which we did twice daily, in the morning and evening.
Going to various places around the town, we experienced many different situations and types of people. There were people who completely rejected the packs, or worse, accepted them so they could destroy them! However, to talk with the people earnestly seeking for Truth and to see them accept it was so satisfying and humbling, it outweighed the previous a hundredfold.
And so, by Friday morning, we had given out around 1,100 packs to souls seeking salvation. We continued our ministry the following week in Almeria on the coast of Spain. Here, under the banner of 'Operation Transit', we did a similar work at the Port. On our daily 8-hour shifts, we handed out packs to cars going by, and had one-to-one conversations with many people waiting for the next boat. It was truly a blessed experience.
All of the team's hearts were opened to the love God has for our Muslim brothers and sisters. As we offered them hope, peace and joy in Jesus physically through the packs, so now we carry the flame at home, praying for God to move in their hearts and to fill them with His love. Our time in North Africa and Spain really was amazing and challenging, and our team verse is what we believe God is doing in the lives of our brothers and sisters there, let us believe and expect great things from our God:
"Look at the nations and watch - and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told."
- Habakkuk 1v.5
God is moving in their hearts, and so, the story continues...
