| Gia, aged 13, lost both of
her parents to AIDS. She now lives with her grandmother and younger sister in a
poor slum in
Phnom Penh
,
Cambodia
. There are no relatives to help them and no government support for bereaved
families |
 |
But Gia,
and other children like her in Cambodia
have hope, shelter, food, clothing and encouragement thanks to a Tearfund-supported
project called HALO. HALO (Hope, Assistance and Love for Orphans) works
especially among children whose parents have died due to HIV/AIDS. It provides
the “family” support for these children, enabling them to continue with
schooling and reach their full potential. By walking for Tearfund this year we
are making a difference to the lives of children like Gia. I’m sure
you’ll agree that that is an amazing thought!
The 2005 total came to
£18,500. This means that over the years you have helped raise in excess of
£170,000.
